Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 5, 2026
We are currently working with legal counsel to finalize this policy. This interim version reflects our current data practices and will be replaced once that review is complete.
Bernadette for Bend ("we," "our," or "us") maintains this website (the "Site") to share information about Bernadette Strome's campaign for Mayor of Bend and to communicate with supporters, volunteers, and voters. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Site, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here, which should be read alongside our Terms of Service.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information in a few ways:
- Information you provide directly - your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and any message content when you fill out a form (volunteer sign-ups, yard sign requests, the Contact page), sign up for email updates, or make a donation.
- Payment and donation information - if you contribute to the campaign, our payment processor collects your payment details directly; we do not store your full card number on our own servers.
- Automatically collected information - like most websites, our server and hosting provider may log standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, and the pages you visit, generally through cookies or similar technology.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to messages, requests, and volunteer or yard-sign sign-ups;
- Send campaign updates, event invitations, and fundraising communications to people who have opted in;
- Process and record donations, including for the campaign finance reporting described below;
- Understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it; and
- Comply with applicable law.
3. Political Contributions and Campaign Finance Disclosure
Because this is a political campaign, contributions are subject to campaign finance law, not just ordinary privacy practice. Depending on the amount contributed, we may be legally required to collect and publicly report a donor's name, mailing address, occupation, and employer to state and/or federal election authorities. This reporting requirement exists independently of this Privacy Policy and cannot be opted out of for contributions that meet applicable disclosure thresholds.
4. Cookies and Similar Technology
The Site may use cookies and similar technologies to keep the Site functioning properly, remember your preferences, and understand aggregate visitor traffic. You can usually adjust your browser settings to limit or block cookies, though some parts of the Site may not function as intended if you do.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
- Service providers who help us operate the Site, process donations, host our email list, or send communications on our behalf, who are only permitted to use it for those purposes;
- Government agencies, where required by campaign finance or other applicable law; and
- Legal authorities, if required to do so by subpoena, court order, or similar legal process.
6. Third-Party Links
The Site links to third-party resources, including Oregon and Deschutes County voter information pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites, and we encourage you to review their own privacy policies before providing any information to them.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the information you share with us, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Choices
You may unsubscribe from our email communications at any time using the link included in every email. You may also contact us directly to ask what information we hold about you or to request that we delete it, though certain records (such as those required for campaign finance reporting) may need to be retained regardless of your request.
9. Children's Privacy
The Site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after a revision constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how your information is handled, please contact us through the Site's Contact page.
